The 299th Judicial District Court handles criminal offenses. Serious crimes such as burglary, robbery, sexual assault, child abuse and murder are among the felony cases that are tried before the 299th District Court. I believe it is a tremendous asset for a district court judge to have handled all types of felony crimes before presiding over these types of cases. Such cases often involve a specialized skill set and a particular understanding of the legal issues involved that will ultimately go before the court or the jury for a resolution. I believe my experience as both a defense attorney and a prosecutor for over a decade in Travis County has prepared me for sitting in judgment of all cases that can and will appear before the 299th District Court. This seat is currently held by the Honorable Charlie Baird who announced in December 2009 that he would not seek re-election and that prior to his service on the bench, Judge Jon Wisser held this position for over 20 years.
